Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has disconnected water for two government ministries and severalĀ other government institutions after failing to pay their water bills.
This was revealed by WUC CEO Gaselemogwe Senai during a recent press conference. Senai who was responding to a question from a Journalist on whether they apply fairness between government departments and the public when disconnecting water, said the disconnection wrath does not spare anyone. To validate his response, he said his corporationĀ has so far disconnected water for Ministry of Education and Skills Development which owed over P40 million as well as Ministry of Transport and Public Works which also owed a large amount of money.
The Botswana Defence Force Glen Valley Camp is said to be owing more than P50 million and Botswana Police Head Quarters owes over P26 million, outstanding bills that resulted in water disconnections for the two law enforcementĀ institutions. According to Senai some councils like Moshupa Sub District Council, Kweneng District Council, Kanye Admin Authority, Mabutsane Sub District and Tonota Sub District also had their water cut as their bills accumulated to over P40 million all together. WUC is said to be owed over P1 billion, with the bigger share of the debt emanating from the public which owes over P700 million.
